Wk2 B: Business Research

Here is an example of how I want you to write up your business research for this exercise. If I was doing research into restaurants, I would probably choose a few small local ones as well as a couple of larger chain restaurants to see the difference in how social media is working for them:

Las Brisas Restaurant

  1. https://lasbrisasmc.com
  2. Las Brisas is a small local restaurant located in Vista, CA. They have a one page website with no visible social media icons shown. This is unfortunate as they are an excellent place to eat, but it may explain why they never seem busy. I did some research online and did find a link to them on Yelp and also a FaceBook page.
  3. Facebook - Looks like 233 people follow their Facebook page and they post once a month.
  4. After checking out the social media for this business I realized that this is a business that could use some help. Their food is really good. The service is pretty quick. It is a comfortable family style restaurant. The staff is really nice. The website is not updated very well either. I have yet to see their restaurant packed with people and it should be.

Tom's Family Restaurant

  1. https://www.tomsfamous.com/
  2. Tom's is a small family of restaurants that has several locations. I assume they are all in Southern California, but I did not investigate that deeply. The one near me is Tom's #24. So really that is quite a few. It is an inexpensive place to eat. They have a drive thru, but you can also go inside to order out or eat there. I have used all three options. Good onion rings. They offer a wide variety of food, breakfast through dinner. The website says their hours vary by location. The one near us opens pretty early and closes around 9...
  3. They have no social media links on their website. So I am doing a search online... I found a very nice FaceBook page. They have15K followers on Facebook. Their last post was July 4th, 2020.  Instagram is very nicely done too. They have 755 Followers. Their last post was December 25th, 2022.  They are actually on a lot of other social platforms, such as menu ones and delivery ones plus others in relation to food. They have a 3.5 rating on Yelp.
  4. Looks like they got a really good start with their social media, paid someone to do it professionally since they have quite a number of California Restaurants in this little chain. But they have definitely dropped the ball. It is another restaurant that could use a little help. They have pretty good food. I can always find something to eat that is tasty. Lots of variety, so they should have more people in there. Their social media is very inconsistent.

ETC! I could go on and do research into some larger restaurant chains or some with fine dining to get a better picture overall. Then do a final wrap up of what I find in my research.

Testing Image Uploads Once more...

Hey there -- It's early morning of a busy day but I need to see if an image will post in a blog... So here goes.

This what I am working on today. An event at  Aztec. It is sold out. Whew.

I uploaded this image directly from my desktop.

I can also add images that are already on the web.

This is an image that is already uploaded on my website.

I don't have any already in my Blogger materials...

I will save and see if they actually appear.

Adding a Photo to my post

Just checking out how to add an image to my posts here on Blogger.

I am going to click the little image icon up the ^^^ ... It says Insert Image and navigate on my computer to the photo I have waiting to be posted. It gives me a lot of options as to where I want to find that image. I chose one that was in a folder I already had set up on my computer for another class. It is a picture of fruit.

It also said I can drag an image directly into my post. That is pretty awesome.

Adding an Image into a Post

Hey -- several of you have been wondering how to add a screen shot into a blog post.
It's actually really easy -

I didn't know how to make a screen shot on a PC - so I did a screen capture of that on my Mac laptop
On a Mac - it's

Command - Shift - 4

That gives you a target tool to capture just the area you want to see.

Below is the screen capture I made about using a PC to make the screen capture - I am adding it to this post by going to the top of this text box and selecting the little image that looks like a mountain view next to the underlined Link.

When I hover over the image box on the top row it says: Insert Image
I clicked on that a popup box and it comes up with a variety of options.

Under the options is a smaller box that says
^ Choose files

I choose the first option
Upload

When I click on the Choose Files button - it lets me select a file off my computer. The screen shot I made was on my desktop.

Once it is uploaded the box adds a button at the bottom
Add Selected

I click on that and now you can see my MAC screen capture of how to make a screen capture on a PC. You can click on my image and it enlarges it so you can actually read the content...

Hope that helps!

Checking background colors

As I write a post, looking above the text box there are a series of options to choose from. I can choose a font face. Or a font color. And next to the font color choice is a weird looking tool that might be a marker?

What does it do?

It changes the background color! Which is exactly what I was looking for!

Week One of CSIT 155: The Template

This template is the basic one. I chose a background image that appealed to me at the moment. I am a spur of the moment sort of person. The blog, is a flexible sort of animal. I can alter it later to fit what needs to be on it. I like this new blog format as well. I can change how it appears on my screen, and my readers can change it too. It is a responsive design.

One thing I have noticed about blogs, I have to add an additional return after each paragraph so the paragraphs are clearly separated.  There is probably a way to alter the preferences so there is more space automatically between the paragraphs, but I haven't looked at that yet.

What else will I need? Have to put on my thinking cap and draw up an idea, plus a list of possible options.

One of the things I love about blogs is that you can go back and edit them anytime. Great for a person who tends to type faster that they can sort out typos.
